we didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of actually enjoying the warmth and sun, so bright and early we made it out to the lake. this time i deemed it warm enough to kayak and gave the boys a ride too.

later on we packed up, loaded the car and went out back for a few more pictures. it was father’s day and i was not going to pass up such a gorgeous backdrop.

we then said our goodbyes, hit the road and tucked away the fun memories safely in out hearts and minds.

the boys woke us up ready to tackle the day with their cousins. they were so excited that the “family sleepover” was under way. we went to down, had breakfast and when the littles went off to play in the game loft with their beloved nana, nelson and i snuck in a mini coffee date overlooking the lake.

it only took a few minutes before the kids realized that there were adults by the lake and despite the cold temperatures, they came on down to play on the lawn, at the beach and to skip some stones on the water. soon enough, nelson deemed it necessary to go into the open water in the kayak and everyone else couldn’t wait to get a turn….except for me. it was freezing! my brother-in-law and nelson took over pushing the kiddies in the kayak parallel to the shore while all the other kiddies kept the toes wet in the lake.

later on in the evening, the cold weather seemed perfect for a little fire on the beach. after diner we got into our sweaters, brought along our blankets and all the fixings for some s’mores. it was the perfect first bonfire, not just for the kids but for me too. brandon fell asleep in my arms, jonathan in nelson’s and the adults enjoyed talking the night away while adding more wood to the flames…

we planned and organized a family getaway and finally the day came to hit the road and head on to the poconos mountains for a relaxing weekend retreat. we were the first to arrive at the house, and once it stopped pouring rain we set out to discover the grounds we’d been dying to explore for a few months now.

gosh it was beautiful. and you’d think my city boys were born and raised on this beautiful lakefront property! throwing rocks into the grassy puddles, rolling around on the wet sand, trying to touch the fish in the lake and wanting the ducks to come close to them. i’ll admit nelson had to remind me a time or two that they were just doing what children do and that it was okay for them to do it.

we had such an amazing time with the rest of the family, but these first couple of hours alone on the property was the perfect start to an unforgettable weekend. there are so many images that i must post, that i will be back soon with more images of our family trip.
